Mussoorie was built around in 1925 during British domination by Captian Fedrick Young who was the
general in British army. It is located in the admirable state of Uattrakhand in the foothills of Himalayan
range at an altitude of 1,880 meter. Uttrakhand is the most famous place in India for its beauty,
simplicity, culture, tradition and mostly the people living there. The place is also known as ‘Dev Bhomi’.
Because according to Hindu mythology Uttarakhand is the place where Gods took birth in the form of
incarnation. Uttarakhand is one of the most splendid place surrounded by the treasure troops and
prestigious beauty. Mussoorie is also called ‘The Queen of Hills’ because of majestic mountains and hills

History of Mussoorie
Mussorie was established during 1925 during the British domination by Captain Fedrick Young who was
the general in British army. Earlier in 1827 there was made a sanatorium which has now become the
cantonment in Landour. There was a time when the Britishers did not allow the Indians to walk on the
Mall Road. Because of famous malls that were built by the Britishers in towns named the road as ‘Mall
road’. During their times ‘Indians and dogs are not allowed’ was written in the Mall road which was then
removed by the Indians later. Many Kings, Nawabs and nature loved fell in love with the sublime beautyand have surrendered themselves and it their home so much that the likes of Maharaja Prataap Shah,
Maharaja Kapoor Thala and Maharaja state of Punjab build their shadows and this trend continued since
mussorie was built.
However, Now with the changing times the modern and well-equipped multi-starred hotels has replaced
the old and one out shadows and mansions built by Kings and Nawabs. As summer retreats, does
making way for prominent actors, sports persons and corporate personalities resulting in attracting
more tourist on daily basis.
Best time to Visit Mussoorie
Every Climatic season has its own pleasure in Mussorie whether we talk about the carefree monsoon
clouds the majestic site of snow that looks like cotton flakes falling from the sky. The pleasant
temperatures during summer or the shivering cold of winters also attracts tourist and steals their heart.

occurs when the snow falls. The clouds touches the mountains and the snow looks like cotton has been
over flooded all over the place. So for visiting the place winter season is also one of the best time but
sometimes because of the heavy snowfall again the roads get blocked.

Education-The other identity for which mussorie is famous for is or you can say the other attraction of
mussoorie is The field of education. The place house many schools considered the prestige issue where
the walls of the elite class have been emparting education ever since.
Mall Road- Mall Road is known as the heart of Mussoorie. It starts from the Landour clock tower point to
the library (the fashionable evenue). The bazaar leads to the attractive landour market, kulery market
and Kitaabghar market.
Just in the middle of Mall road, is the statursque view of Doon Valley, Huge sky, Rope way, Aquarium,
Tibetan market, shops, showrooms, restaurant and hotels.
Lal Tibba- Lal Tibba is on mussorrie’s left. It is 5km from the Mall road. From here one can view the
panoramic view of the Himalayas including the peaks of famous pilgrimage centres does namely
Kedarnath, Gangotri, Chaukambha, Nanda Devi and Srikant.
Doordarshan Tower- A television tower is installed here which relays the doordarshan programmes to
the households in the northern plains of India.
IAS academy- At the right of the mussoorie there is the IAS academy which is also known as the Lal
Bahadur Shashtri national administrative academy. The administrative officials after receiving training
rule the country by serving in different administrative post.
Lakhmandal- Lankhmandal is 75 km from Mussoorie. This place has historical as well as mythological
significance. It figures prominently in the anals of Mahabharatta. Lakhamandal is believed to be the
place where Duryodhan of Mahabharat conspired to brun the pandavas alive in the Lakshyagirya house.
Old temples of shiva, the pandavas and Parshu Ram are plenty in this area. An ancient temple of Lord
shiva is the dream destination of the worshippers of Shakti Kalt. The major attraction is the Shivling
which is believed to be built by the elder brother of Pandavas ‘Yudhister’.
Tehri Dam- On the east of the Moussoorie, 75 km away is the Asia’s first and Worlds second largest Dam
which is the Tehri Dam. which thrills every one. This Dam is spread around 50 km area. Apart from its
attractive look the Dam also provides water and electricity to the country.
Some other magnificent places here that one get mesmerized at the first sight is the which is 6 km from
Library Bazar, Park Estate road, another attraction Hathipao is at some distance from here.
Sir George Everest’s house- It is indeed matter of great pride that Sir George Everest one of the greatest
survey general of its time has set up the office of survey of India in the park estate in 1832. This is the
same place where Sir George Everest establish its laboratory that still exsits.
Camel’s back road- This is place where many tourist comes to enjoy their morning walks and see the
magical view from here. The natural beauty with the cool Himalayan breeze and the formation of clouds
give feeling of walking in heaven. The natural rock formation of the place is in the form of a Camel’s
Bhatta Fall- Near by mussoorie there is a place called Bhatta falls which is 7 km away. where the tourist
come and enjoys bathing in the fall under the sun.
Mussoorie Lake- Mussoorie Lake is 6 km away from Mussoorie. Tourist enjoys boating here. If you are
interested in Paragliding then you must visit paragliding club here.
Kempty Fall- A natural waterfall which is around 15 km from Mussoorie on the yamunotri road which is
most fascinating and biggest waterfall. A perfect place for the tourist to enjoy the natural envoirnment.
The milky waterfall thrills everyone visiting the place.
Company Garden- 4 km away from the Ghandhi chawk exist a picnic spot named company garden.
which has a beautiful garden and artificial mini lake providing the paddle boating facilities.
How to reach Mussoorie.
Mussoorie is 38 km Dehradun. It takes about 45 minutes to reach there if you go by your own vehicle and
1 hour if you travel by bus. It is about 290 km from Delhi. Mussoorie dost not have a direct link but the
one who wants to reach Mussoorie will have to reach there through Dehradun. The railway station in
Dehradun is connected to all major cities such as Delhi, Mumbai, Lucknow, Howrah, Varanasi, Aritsar,
Saharanpur, Haridwar, Rishikesh, Varanasi, Allahabad, Ujjain, Indore, Kathgodam, Okha.
After you reach Dehradun, you can take bus from the Mussorie bus stand to reach there. Taxis are also
available to reach there.
By Air there is Jollygrant airport which is 24 km away from Dehradun and it is 60 km away from
From Delhi it would take 7 to 8 hours to reach Dehradun by bus.
